The limit between land and sea is magical, just like mermaids who, the story goes, are fish below their waistlines. There are so many other legends about these creatures. For example, it is said they are the owners of the water, and that they offer great feasts to the men they make fall in love with them. Yet the inhabitants of Bilwi, a fisherman town in Nicaragua, seem to have lost the mermaids\u2019 fondness \u2013 divers go to the bottom of the sea, only to come back with their bodies paralyzed to a violence-ridden land. Luis Rinc\u00f3n explores that limit, beneath and over the sea, with shadows that reflect fish scales on the skin on their inhabitants; a place where conflict cohabits with the beauty of the space.<\/p>\n

Luis Rinc\u00f3n<\/strong> studied Communications at the Iberoamericana University. He earned a grant from FONCA for his project\u00a0M\u00e9xico b\u00e1rbaro<\/em>\u00a0in 2010.
