After carefully reviewing the 134 applications received to the calls for Community Leadership (75) and New Social Actors (59), we want to publicize the results and the process we followed to give sustenance to the final selection of projects supported by Levantemos México.

On September 2017, Diego Luna, Gael García Bernal, and Documental Ambulante launched the fundraising campaign Levantemos México as an immediate response to the earthquakes that affected the central and southeast regions in Mexico. By the end of 2017, the campaign had raised over 28.5 million pesos thanks to the generosity of over 15,000 backers from all over the world. The Levantemos México fund is destined to reconstruct the most affected communities by the earthquakes.

Purpose

The Levantemos México fund seeks to strengthen the communities affected by the September 2017 earthquakes from a human rights perspective, enhancing their own capacities to define and implement actions that will allow them to recover their lifestyles and rethink their future based on the experience.

The fund also seeks to document and make visible citizen efforts, in order to promote sustained solidarity with the people who will continue to rebuild their communities in the coming years, and strengthen the incidence ability of social organizations in national reconstruction actions.

Promote community and citizen leadership in reconstruction efforts
Strengthen the social ties, cooperation, and solidarity in the affected communities
Increase local abilities in strategic aspects for the response to earthquakes
Incorporate prevention and resilience measures for future disasters

Strengthen the perspective of human rights in the reconstruction processes
Make visible the experiences and learning in order to have an impact in national reconstruction efforts
